Fringe Season 5…?
So it has been rumored that this might be the last season of Fringe (on Fox…) and I had a few thoughts on that……
For those of us who work on this great show, we would like the chance to a) complete the stories that our writers’ have left to tell and b) while we do forget sometimes in the heat of it all, we have great jobs and we love what we do and we feel that we are good at what we do. Sure, we would love to pay our mortgages into 2013 and I don’t think there is anything wrong with that.
Personally, I do like what I do and the Props that we get to make and work with, not to mention the working collaborations with our amazing actors, mean there is never a dull moment. Of course, we, the cast and crew (our BIG crazy Fringe Family) have been chatting on set about what the future holds and we know that Fringe fans are Twittering etc., to show their support and that is great but perhaps, and I know that some may already know this, (but for those not in the know…) TV exists to make money. If the viewing numbers are not there on Friday nights, we walk a fine line. Regular cable/ TV viewers are what advertisers want: There are two other numbers that are important and that is the Plus 3 and the Plus 7 numbers. PVR is popular and many people record to view at a later date or they download or wait for the DVD. the Plus 3 and Plus 7 number reflect the viewership 3 and 7 days, consecutively, after the air date and THOSE numbers are great! But our advertisers don’t count those numbers and THAT is counting against us! We need you to watch on Friday nights. Until networks catch up and find a way to monetize the Plus 3 and Plus 7s, this is gonna have to do.
So please Fringe Fans, make sure you tune in on Friday nights! We are so grateful for your amazing support and we know you appreciate what we do every day.
Thanks!
